I normally wear a 39 in Birkenstocks, and an 8.5 in Nike runners. My other shoes are generally Sz 8.5 to 9.
What Sz would you recommend for me in these shoes?

I'd go 39! You probably could make either pair work as they're buttery soft leather. But the 39 might give you the option to wear barefoot or with a sock with more ease.

These actually run a full size big, so if you are a 38 I think based on other customers who have tried, the 37 will work well!
