We've been making these chogak po style patchwork curtains for ourselves for years now. If you've been to our Accra showroom you've surely seen them throughout the office, where they extend our values of conservation and resourcefulness into our decor. Our delicate Plaia curtains filter light beautifully and give a luxe feel. The indigo version is pretty incredible; it is hard to describe the nuance in the color tones and variation. We are pretty thrilled to have these as our last product ever to be produced. The deep blues block out much light, but these are not blackout curtains by any means. The fabrics used are natural indigo, including rayon, cotton, and silk. The Plaia brings visual texture to a room without stealing the show. For this production we are collaborating with a long-term artisan partner in Accra, master tailor Bawah Issaka. Bawah shares our passion for quality, responsible manufacturing, and the art of slow and thoughtful production. His meticulous patchwork is quite an artisanal undertaking, and no two curtains are alike. We are very excited to be working with Imam Mudasir and his studio in Daboya, who use local indigo (Philenoptera cyanescens) to do traditional fermented pit dyeing. The color has stunning depth and a rich local history, where it is known as a divine gift. Each Plaia curtain has a 3" pole pocket at the top and a deep 3" hem for added weight at the bottom. They are slightly translucent.
Osei-Duro garments are hand dyed and each piece is unique. Please note that print placement and hue may vary. For Indigo pieces, we wash all of our indigo fabrics several times, but please note that our natural indigo pieces will crock. This means for the first few wears you should expect some color loss. This tendency is a sign of authenticity in West Africa, and the blue is considered to have medicinal properties on the skin. If you feel differently, try soaking in vinegar salutation and drying in the sun.
