Ashley Rowe launched a small, six-piece collection of denim styles in 2016, quickly picked up by Need Supply Co. as an exclusive before expanding to boutiques worldwide. Seeing a desire for minimalist design in fashion, Rowe’s work explores the ideas made possible by shaping a single fabric into different forms. Riffing on a simple, cropped denim T-shirt, she might stretch the silhouette into a short dress, top it with a wide funnel neck or add sleeves to create range of pieces. The clothes are at once a backdrop and a statement, morphing with the person wearing them. Built in sturdy fabrics like denim and raw canvas, they are loose, protective and tough, all manufactured in Marfa, Texas.
