After spending the majority of 2010 traveling throughout India, designer Arati Rao created Tantuvi with the intention of fusing traditional South Indian style with contemporary modernity. Although the line is designed and manufactured in Brooklyn, the brand works primarily with Ikat weavers using handloom co-operatives to weave each fabric. Named for the sanskrit word for “weaver”, philanthropy is at the heart of this brand which aims to support artisans and weavers in the region while helping future generations reach financial independence and education. Each garment is made by hand, from the weaving, to the sewing and dyeing process. Look for loose, effortless silhouettes, bold patterns and styles that make five-minute dressing a breeze.
