Gentry began life as H.W. Carter & Sons, a multi-brand store and suiting line that carried like-minded designers with a similar heritage aesthetic. After selling the label in 2013, Gentry was launched to continue the mission of connecting customers with the most relevant brands on the market today. The name is a reference to the cultivated gentlemen of yore—guys whose eclectic taste and savoir faire set them apart from the rabble.

Chimala designer Noriko Machada takes no shortcuts when it comes to crafting the brand’s vintage-inspired, workwear-influenced denim. Though she designs out of New York City, all Chimala pieces are produced in Japan, beginning with the weaving of selvedge denim on pre-war shuttle looms, and ending with distressing done by hand.
