The 997 HCX is a new, improved version of the iconic 997 sneakers, enriched with a modern finish. Coming in a mix of suede, mesh and leather materials, the 997H models come in monotone upper panels lined with Cordura fabric. Sewn at the top of the tongue is a square-shaped patch, etched with "New Balance" branding, complemented with flat laces. The collars come in breathable mesh fabric, fine grain leather near the top section of the lace cage, followed by premium nubuck along the sidewalls and toe box. Other details like the suede heel panel and speckle patterns gracing the soft foam midsole round up the sneakers. Underfoot, it swaps out the original's C-CAP and ENCAP midsole for a lighter GCEVA foam that has been injected directly into the midsole instead of being layered like in most other shoes. New Balance continues to experiment with its offering of revamped classics, this time outfitting the 997H with Cordura lining. The fabric is known for its durability and resistance to abrasions, tears, and scuffs, making this the perfect pair to beat to death. - Premium suede, leather and mesh upper - Cordura lining - Pull tab at heel - Speckled midsole - GCEVA foam cushioning - Flat hiking-inspired laces - Model no.
