The Boutique
Umeboshi (oo-meh-boh-shee) is a boutique located in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Vancouver. Founded in 2005 by owner Stephanie Gorrell, Umeboshi has come to be known for quality goods, thoughtful customer service and a discerning selection of footwear and accessories. Focusing on independent & handcrafted wares, Umeboshi’s ideals stem from the appreciation of beautiful & functional design, as well as a great respect for craftsmanship. Here each piece has a history to share, and it is our joy to muse on it with you.
The Designer
Beginning as a fashion-fueld passion project between two friends, Opening Ceremony quickly developed into a major fashion house and distinct lifestyle brand. Carol Lim and Humberto Leon founded the brand in 2002 with the idea of it becoming a creative outlet where they could share their passion for the arts, travel and fashion. Since then, Opening Ceremony has built a reputation for their pioneering vision in the industry. Collaborations with brands such as Rodarte, Topshop, Pendleton and Maison Martin Margiela have reeled in a string of fans including artists and celebrities. Sleek, sculptural silhouettes define this label whose pieces are pretty much works of contemporary art you can wear.
