With a background in animation and a penchant for the whimsical, it's no wonder L.A.-based artist Rami Kim creates ceramics that border on the surreal. Kim takes inspiration from earth and art to create organic yet functional shapes with quirky details like minimalist faces and pops of bright color. It was Sculpey — the polymer clay you may remember from elementary school art class — that led Rami Kim to ceramics. An animator by trade (award-winning, in fact!), Kim was led to clay as a medium while working on a stop-motion piece that involved crafting 3D figurines. People, women especially, are central to Kim’s ceramics work, bringing character to ordinary objects.
