The "Ishikawa-dai" is a Japanese ring spinning machine built in 1953 by Ishikawa Seisakusho Co., believed to be the oldest of its kind still in use in Japan. Operating at just one-third the speed of modern machines, it prioritizes quality over productivity, gently preserving cottons natural texture. This creates a hand-spun-like unevenness with a unique, organic feel that modern technology cannot replicate. The warp yarns are indigo-dyed without refining, preserving the cottons texture and achieving an uneven dye reminiscent of vintage 1950s denim. Every step in the process is deliberately low-tech to authentically recreate the denim of 1953. Garments made from this denim develop character over time, evolving into a new generation of vintage wear.
