The indigo dyeing of the warp threads preserves this unique cotton texture, omitting the usual refining process to create an uneven dye similar to vintage denim from that era. To recreate the denim of 1953, the entire process is done using traditional methods. Products made from Ishikawadai denim will age beautifully with wear, evolving into the next generation of vintage wear. "Ishikawadai" refers to the oldest Japanese-made ring spinning machine still in use, manufactured by Ishikawa Seisakusho Co in 1953. While records of the manufacturer are scarce, it is believed to be the oldest operating spinning machine in Japan. Unlike modern ring spinning machines, it operates at about one-third the speed, resulting in lower productivity. However, the slower speed reduces stress on the cotton, producing a gentle texture and uneven feel similar to hand-spun yarn, with a natural expression unique to cotton that computers cannot replicate.
