*AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER* These sashiko jeans by Studio D'Artisan reproduces the "Aishita" technique of Kyoto black montsuki dyeing. The deep and powerful black tone, created by repeatedly layering black over indigo, represents the ultimate black achievable only through Kyo Kuro Montsuki dyeing. The base fabric is 14.0oz original selvedge sashiko, known for its thick, uneven texture. The silhouette is slim straight. The history of Kyoto black montsuki dyeing dates back to the Heian period when ink dyeing, the process of colouring fabric with ink, was practiced. In ancient times, monks and samurai wore these garments as formal attire. During the Edo period, techniques called "Beni-shita" and "Aishita" were developed, where fabric was under-dyed with red or indigo to achieve a deep black colour. To create this deep black, the fabric is repeatedly dipped and lifted in the dye, with the temperature subtly adjusted, based on the craftsman's skill and intuition honed over years. This process is repeated many times to achieve the desired depth.
