Silk Mashroo Smoking Jacket by Tigra Tigra. Mashroo is an ancient textile from the Indian subcontinent which was originally developed for Islamic nobility. It was created to conform to the tenets of Islam which forbade silk to touch the skin. Mashroo has a cotton weft and silk warp which floats on top of the cotton, which enabled the ruling Islamic nobility to flaunt and wear the luxurious sheen of silk without breaking religious law. Mashroo was a widely popular export to the Ottoman Empire. Product details: 100% hand-loomed and small-batch dyed, made in Patan, Gujarat. 50% silk, 50% cotton. Fits true to size. The brand operates as a women empowerment NGO in India, employing over 500 women that use traditional techniques to create textiles. Each piece is handcrafted, resulting in completely unique and original garments, like their silk embroidered co-ord sets, jumpsuits, and blouses. The brand is already a winner for their altruism but gets bonus points for being a personal favorite of Solange, who’s been photographed in the brand.
