Sissy's New Rules For Summer Dressing
The question that arises every year, as soon as it’s hot as hell outside: how can we style our summer attire in a new, fresh and modern way? Here are a few ideas. Choose clothing made of weather-appropriate fabrics with elevated design details. I can’t say it enough: opt for garments made of natural fibers for summer. Take Joan Crawford’s disdain for wire hangers and apply it to man-made materials. No polyester! Linen is your friend, but not if it lets you out of the house looking like you’re wearing a potato sack. For flax at its finest, go with figure flattering cuts and elegant embellishments. Make bare-bones outfits more interesting with the right accessories.
Statement earrings, thin leather belts, and woven hats are great. Also, head kerchiefs are making a comeback just in time for the triple digits to hit. As a kid, wearing a swimsuit under your clothes all summer was pure joy. You were ready to run through sprinklers or hop in a pool at a moment’s notice. In 2017, grownups can delight in wearing bikini and bra tops on the outside of their clothes. And, if you’re not a shorts person, don’t sweat it. There are so many chic alternatives. Circle skirts, pencil skirts, and relaxed trousers are all examples of breathable bottoms that are a million times fresher than shorts.

It has been scientifically proven that an all black ensemble can keep you cooler in the summer than light colors. Yay science!
Birds do it. Bedouins do it. Turns out wearing head to toe black can keep you cooler in the summer than lighter colored clothing. Google it! The trick is to wear it loose and be sure it’s a natural fiber like cotton or linen.
Straw accessories are the new summer essential.
Invest in luxurious straw bags and hats. These are prominent accessories — a hat is worn on your head for God’s sake - so quality matters. Don’t go picking up just any old hat from a souvenir shop. You’ll want to look for pieces with timeless design, constructed of high-grade materials, that are handwoven and hand finished. Not only will your accessories be more appealing to the eye, they will be more durable and can last for years of use. Also note that a cheap straw shoulder bag can damage your clothing with pills and snags, costing you more in the long run.
