Style Talk With Our Gift Set Curators
Take a mini break from perusing our holiday gift shop because it’s time to talk style with the women behind each amazing set you’ve been admiring. These nine badass women have varying passions, creative disciplines, day-to-night activities and, of course, personal style. We thought it would be fun to ask them to describe their style, spill on their closet essentials and reveal their party outfit attack plan.
(You know, since it’s the holidays and all.) These amazing ladies prove that every body out there has their own unique style skin and they give us some of the best fancy attire inspo out there. You’re welcome.
Fashion designer, jumpsuit extraordinaire and crazy cat lover Ilana Kohn knows what’s up when it comes to the marriage of comfort and style. Renowned for her relaxed silhouettes and fabric with the perfect drape, her cool, feminine line will take you from the office to happy hour drinks. Take note from her effortless ease and extreme love of good plain tees.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? I would pretty much sum it up as COMFORTABLE. Elastic waist, check. Sweats, check. And goodness knows I do love a good plain t-shirt.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? A million good t-shirts, vintage jeans and a Mabel Jacket. Also a million jumpsuits obvi.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? Depending how fancy, again with the t-shirts, but with some Boyd Pants and heels. If it calls for more than that -- one of my besties got married recently so I wore a Noil Merle dress with some heels and red lipstick. I felt like a grown-up. ;)
As the founder of Lisa Says Gah, Lisa Bühler obviously has a perspective not to be missed. With a constantly revolving wardrobe, you can catch her rocking cropped denim, a button up, and mules one day and an ultra-feminine vintage dress the next. Being surrounded by amazing pieces from independent designers isn’t the worst, is it?
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Comfortable, sophisticated and effortless.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? Blazers, jeans, turtlenecks, investment shoes, a market tote and vintage dresses. I turn over my wardrobe often and stick to current favorites for a season or two. Right now I have this linen blazer I've been wearing as a top and I love the lightness and structure of it. I often will wear the same thing three times a week.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? Probably would turn to a fun vintage dress. Currently turning to a double-breasted polka dot midi dress with pearly white buttons and a cameo necklace.
Based in New York, Éva Goicochea is a creative strategist, web designer, and co-founder of both Maude (a line of simple sex essentials) and Tinker Watches (a customizable collection of minimal timepieces). Her eye for design glares across her social media aesthetic and style presence. Simple and classic, Eva is the one to make jeans and a t-shirt feel fresh again.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Classic and casual. I live in grays, blacks and whites, but have a huge affinity for coats. It's a problem.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? A good pair of black jeans, a white oxford, a few well-worn tees, and a pair of oxfords or flats.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? All black with a good pair of earrings and a red lip.
Julia Sherman is the woman behind blog-turned-book Salad for President but trust us, her wardrobe consists of so much more than aprons. A lover of sleek lines and good tailoring, Julia’s style is both put-together and bold.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? I used to dress like a demented baby doll, with lots of vintage, puffy sleeves, and crazy colors. In the last few years, I have realized how much better I feel in sleek lines and good tailoring. I have an absurd collection of white dress shirts, and I love lots of layers. I aspire to dress like a chic Japanese architect.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? Wide legged cropped black pants, oversized sweaters and hats. I LOVE hats, and I am terrified of the sun, so I really embrace the hat as a component of my personal style.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? I am an acolyte of the designer Morgan LeFay, and I have a couple of her dresses that never fail for dressing up. Her clothes are so romantic and timeless to me. I remember walking past her soho shop as a kid and ogling the nymphlike, diaphanous gowns, always with the best color palette: burgundy, moss green, silvery grey or powder pink. She always styles her clothes with little ankle boots, so that gives me the license not to wear heels.

Restaurateur and co-founder of female-driven media platform MISSBISH, mom of two, yoga instructor, and lover of candles, Lindsay Jang, has a thing for black clothes. Her busy schedule demands a wardrobe that is practical — but that does not mean Lindsay sacrifices style.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Fun, comfortable and black.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? Alexander Wang anything, lululemon tights, MISSBISH bodysuits (and everything else!).
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? An Enza Costa tank dress with a fun jacket and heels.
James Kicinski-McCoy and Katie Hintz-Zambrano
James Kicinski-McCoy and Katie Hintz-Zambrano, the inspiring mom duo behind Mother magazine, are big fans of comfort (who isn’t?). But while James looks to vintage classics, Katie has an obsession with dresses, color and prints.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? James: Comfortable, classic, tomboy with just the right dose of femininity. I tend to splurge on timeless items that I know I will wear on repeat for at least a decade. I also shop and wear a lot of vintage for good measure!
Katie: Lots of dresses, lots of color, and lots of prints! Comfort is key for me, and I have a great grip on what my day-to-day life looks like, especially after having a kid and working from home for several years now. My wardrobe reflects this, and is filled with easy pieces that I can wear for preschool pick-up and drop-off, as well as some dressy-yet-casual pieces for meetings, and more glamorous pieces for nights out. I'm also a huge champion of California designers, and I have pieces by Doen, Kamperett, Lotfi, The Podolls, Freda Salvador, See Sun, Jessica Winzelberg, Clare Vivier, Lindsay Robinson, and Bryr in constant rotation. New York brands I love include Rachel Comey, Hatch, and Sea New York.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? James: A chic black blazer is a must–I have been searching for a vintage Saint Laurent and would really love a classic Balmain. A stack of well worn and well loved vintage 501s. Soft cashmere sweaters in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. A great statement shoe (I love Dries Van Noten). Golden Goose sneakers. A trusty plain white tee. And, I am a sucker for beautiful rings on every finger from my friend Arrow and Anchor Antiques. Her collection is incredible!
Katie: Jumpsuits are my go-to for looking somewhat pulled together, but also really comfortable and able to go from preschool drop-off to a day of meetings and work and then back to pre-school pick-up and then maybe an after-hours event. I also have an insane collection of Freda Salvador shoes—over 15 pairs. So, a jumpsuit plus Freda is always a winning combination.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? James: High waisted pants or a black suit with killer shoes or boots. Sometimes a dress, but I feel most confident in pants.
Katie: A statement dress and a Freda boot or heel. I also have a pair of orange neon clogs by Bryr that always get a gazillion compliments.
Just take a peek at Marjon Carlos’ fun IG feed and you’ll have outfit inspiration for at least a week. The freelance fashion writer and brand consultant looks amaze in everything from double denim to a floral maxi. And, just like us, she’s a big fan of emerging designers, so don’t be surprised when you spot Marjon in Suzanne Rae’s latest white pumps, a Ganni leopard turtleneck or a pair of Raen specs.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? It's definitely evolving, but I would say it's polished, sensual, chic, tomboy-inspired, with a heavy emphasis on great denim, white shoes, and structured blazers.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? I can't seem to take off my new ReDone jeans – they hug my butt and waist perfectly! I love my Margiela boots, Martiniano glove shoes, Maje leather jacket, all the vintage, oversized blazers I've collected over the years, and Hanes men's white t-shirts are a godsend.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? For parties, I love leather pants because they are the perfect combo of sexy, chic, but chill. Throw on a slinky camisole, a blazer, and a pair of heels and you're easily the coolest woman in the room.
When it comes to personal style, Poketo co-founder and creative director Angie Myung likes to keep things minimal. Give her a crisp white shirt, black trousers, a pair of easy shoes and she feels at home—and looks hella good too. Her style is all about simple staples and wearing what makes one feel good.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Easy, breezy casual. I don't believe in fashion over comfort. As a total minimalist, when I buy something new, I try to create an equilibrium in that I like to get rid of something that I hardly wear. Not a trendsetter or a follower. I like to wear what I like to wear. Also, as someone who buys and thinks about design all day long, 24/7, I have to say that I don't like shopping on my days off. I tend to only buy things that I know I will not tire of. So fewer better things in classic styles but with interesting details.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? Clean white button down, white t-shirts, striped shirts, black pants, a couple good pairs of jeans, scarves, lots of scarves as I get cold really easily, soft cashmere sweaters. Living in LA doesn't really afford me to wear long coats, which I do miss at times.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? Simple black dress with interesting details and silhouettes.
Garmentory co-founder Adele Tetangco may be tiny—5”2 tiny—but her style personality is quite the contrary. Often spotted in oversized everything and accessorized with statement earrings and drool-worthy shoes, Adele is ready for anything the day throws at her.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Long and oversized.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLOSET ESSENTIALS? A crisp white blouse and a good fitting pair of denim.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO LOOK FOR PARTIES? Earrings, eyelashes and a good shoe. I can show up in a jogging suit and it won’t matter as long as I have those three things on.
