The Biggest Spring/Summer Trends for 2021
As we head into spring, we’re fully ready to shake up our wardrobes with looks that are bold and daring (sometimes to the point of danger). Our five favorite spring/summer 2021 trends combine the fresh feels of the season into standout pieces you’ll be talking about through the fall.
Eau de Burger
Ah, the scents of summer! Cut grass, ocean air, suntan lotion, and (of course) backyard barbecues. This year, we’re loving fragrances that bottle up the most delicious of grilled delicacies: hamburgers. Look for perfumes with layers of meat char, sweet ketchup, and a tang of crisp pickles so you can take that picnic feeling with you all season long.
Looking for a hybrid accessory you can DIY from things you already have in your closet? Shearrings (shoe earrings) are a super cool way to double up the use of your favorite sandals and sneakers. Simply tie the laces and loop them over the tops of your ears. It’s best to go with lighter styles for comfort, but for a special occasion choose a thick-soled tennis shoe that’s both sporty and chic.
Sharp, fierce hair accessories are a total standout for spring/summer, and choosing a live cactus headband is about as edgy as you can get. Seen on the runways of plant nurseries and desert gardens, these pieces stay put by affixing themselves directly to your scalp. It’s not exactly the most comfortable topper, but sometimes beauty is pain, right?
We love vibrant raincoats for bringing a big of joy to drizzly spring days. The latest crepe-paper coats do just that in a range of shades and a textured feel. You’ll want to make sure you don’t actually wear these coats in the rain, as crepe paper tends to dissolve and disintegrate when it gets wet, but we still love seeing materials used in new ways (however impractical they may be).
Walking on Glass
Feel like Cinderella in this season’s real glass slippers made from thin, clear glass formed into precarious pumps. Keep in mind, these shoes are highly breakable so you’ll want to tread lightly, but it’s totally worth all the heads you’ll turn. On the spring/summer runways, many models shattered the shoes—but you’ll surely do better strutting around in these crystal beauties. Maybe keep some bandaids handy just in case.
