-Packing in a carry-on is the goal, but if you must check a bag, keep some emergency pieces in your hand luggage in case the checked piece gets lost or delayed.
-If traveling with kids, bring a few new-to-them toys, activities, or shows and a few hours' worth of extra snacks. This came in handy when my family and I were 45 minutes from landing in Newark after flying from Seattle, only to be diverted back to Cleveland because of thunderstorms. We ended up being six hours delayed arriving at our destination.

- If sharing a suitcase, get color-coded packing cubes for each person to quickly sort things upon arrival.
-Travel car seats for kids have been game-changing. We’ve used WAYB (airline middle seat friendly) and Safe Ride 4 Kids. Friends have had luck with inflatable booster seats. Do your due diligence for what makes sense for your kiddos.
