How to Care For Your Sweaters
At Garmentory, we're avid enthusiasts of cashmere and wool sweaters, but there are common misconceptions about caring for these exquisite (yet delicate) garments. While following the care instructions on the tag is crucial, consider this your ultimate guide when in doubt.
Washing
Investing in timeless luxury extends your wardrobe's lifespan. These garments thrive on minimal washing, so don't wash after every use. For soaking, prioritize hand washing. To soak, fill your sink with lukewarm water and mild detergent, let it soak for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and hang dry. If machine washing, choose a gentle cycle with low or no spin, and don't throw in any scented detergents. Do not...we repeat do not...put a sweater in the dryer unless you're trying to shrink it down to child size.
Stain Removal
Spilled coffee on your dream sweater? Stay calm. Cold water is your ally. Remove the stain by gently blotting it with a cloth dipped in cold water and dishwashing liquid. Rinse thoroughly in cold water and let it dry.
Pilling
Pills can be the precursor to unraveling your sweater. When you spot a pill, use a fabric shaver or scissors to carefully snip it away.
Storing
Bid farewell to your sweaters for the season by storing them in sealable bags or bins. Ensure items are clean to deter pests, and consider adding lavender or rosemary for a fresh scent.
