Let’s Hear It for the Moms!
Shoutout to our Garmentory Moms! We asked some of our favorite boutique owners and designers (who also take care of tiny humans) what the most beautiful thing about motherhood is and how becoming a parent has influenced their businesses. Each mom also shared a few things from her wishlist. Need any last-minute Mother’s Day gifts? They’ve got you covered!

My daughter (she’s nine) is so funny, and I feel blessed every day to have her. The most beautiful thing about motherhood is her warm hugs and the one million questions daily...I’m still learning and I love that!
I have been in business since 1999, and after I had Charlie I was so much more focussed on building my brand and my company. I felt like I made better decisions and smarter moves. Is that “adulthood?” I wanted to show her what hard work looks like as well as the love of running a business.
Anna Margaret from Le Souk Le Souk
I have four children, ages 16, 12, two, and 5 months—so, yes, I am exhausted and in need of some self care but truly cannot imagine life any other way. There is nothing more magical than literally growing a human and then getting to nurture them and guide them and watch them blossom into a unique individual. It is also pure beauty to see siblings connect, interact, and love each other.
I opened my first brick and mortar in 2010. It was a gift shop catering to women and children, complete with a handy playroom. I wanted the space to be mother and child friendly because I, too, was a mom. As my children grew, I opened Le Souk Le Souk, my grownup project (a bit fancier)! However our family wasn’t quite complete, so I closed both shops and went 100 percent online so that I could be home and have two more (yikes!) babies. I suppose my children have always dominated my business decisions, they certainly come first and I feel so lucky that it can be that way.
Jennifer Steinwurtzel from Jake and Jones
For me, one of the most beautiful things about motherhood is this unconditional kind of love you get to feel for another being. My kids are the recipients of a kind of love I didn’t even know I had until they came along. It is a kind of love that is giving, selfless, silly, and never ending.
It was actually because I was a mother that I decided to open the store and become a business woman. Many times in my life before, I wanted to open a business but I lacked the courage and confidence. Having kids really gave me that extra push to do it, because I knew that I wanted them to see their mother as someone contributing to society, to our community, and making her own money.
Rose McMahon from Rightful Owner
The most beautiful thing about motherhood to me is the closeness you can feel with your children. They wrap around you physically and emotionally, almost a part of you for a moment. Even if that moment is not permanent and they will grow and become their own persons, it's an amazing feeling to be so connected to something so precious as a child.
Becoming a mother has changed almost every aspect of how I design clothing. Now, I think of clothing as something that needs to be used, and not just something that is beautiful. I also create clothing that has flexibility in size now that I am a mother and my body has gone through so much. All my pieces are now adjustable so that you can gain or lose weight in them. I design my clothes to celebrate femininity and the female body and becoming a mother has strengthened these aspects.
Whitney Bickers from Myrtle
The most beautiful thing about motherhood for me is realizing how innate our personalities are. We definitely guide our children as parents, but from day one both of my boys have shown me who they are, and it's been such a wild ride to learn these entirely new—and very opinionated—little people.
I'm more sensitive than ever about the way clothing can shape our feelings about our bodies and ourselves for better—or worse! Motherhood has really changed my body in more than just weight and made me appreciate flexible designs more than ever. When I design and buy, I'm really thinking about how a garment is going to work in a woman's life over multiple seasons and through different facets of her life.

The most beautiful thing about motherhood for me is getting to grow up alongside my daughters, ages one and five. Raising children can teach you things about yourself that you never had to explore, and give you experiences unlike any other. Seeing them thrive, feel proud, and be confident is extremely powerful and inspiring; all while learning to be their best mama. That's pretty freaking beautiful.
As for how parenthood has influenced my business,] how much time do you have?! My first daughter was born the same day I received my final lease agreement via email. I had two babies and dove right into both new worlds all at once .
Prior to motherhood, I would have had 110% energy and focus for the business. I could eat, sleep, breathe it and I'd love it. As a new mom, I eventually understood that, for me, that level of devotion to the store was not going to happen if I wanted to be a sane person, a present mother, and a happy business owner and creative. It was extremely tough to process, but necessary if I ever wanted to sustain a work and home life. Motherhood throws a lot your way between physical and emotional needs (not unlike a new business), so you have to make adjustments when, where, and however you can.
Storefront-wise, motherhood has been a big part of the why for the designs we share so that everyone— with or without kids—can enjoy them. That being said, our baby/kids section has been the most fun to expand over the years, especially since a lot of our customers are young families, too. We love being a family-friendly store.

Goodness, that’s a huge question…the most beautiful thing about motherhood for me is constantly changing. It is born of, and always comes back to, the various forms inexhaustible LOVE that you experience in all things big and small. I love watching my daughter creatively connect with the things that capture her attention, the flow in her process of making or learning in a pure organic way, when she’s just present within the moment. It ceaselessly awes me!
The purpose of PRESTIDGE beauté Active Organics' entire skincare line was to replace all the toxic, ineffective and single-purpose products that were cluttering my life, draining my wallet, and unhealthy for my family and the environment. PbAO was created with love + Reiki for deep healing on multiple levels, that would cover the gamut of needs and concerns I recognized weren’t being met. My Healing Salve-in particular-was ultimately formulated with my daughter Marlow in mind-to clean and heal her host of endless boo-boos and ailments she seems so prone to.
