Corey Moranis is a Canadian designer who handcrafts playful jewelry and accessories made from lucite. Crystalline and prismatic, the loops, knots, and twists of her elemental pieces are informed by the medium itself, making a modern statement with a whisper. Each Corey Moranis piece is one of a kind—handmade in her Toronto studio. Take a look below as the designer gives us an inside look into her latest collection.
The inspiration behind my Fall/Winter 2020 collection is color therapy. This season, I see the world through rose-colored glasses—and not just rose, but every shade of the color wheel. We projected Lucite loops through a prism, refracting into a saturated spectrum from pastels to jewel tones. Working on this collection brought color into my life through these tough times, and I hope that these pieces will be a source of chromatic light in the winter days to come.
Another source of inspiration for the collection was my mom, Sandy. She is the model and muse for Fall/Winter 2020. It was so much fun dressing her up and having her be part of the process in this really exciting way. My mom loves doing her own nails, and calls her personal nail salon “Sandy's Nail Nook.” All of the years watching her and her beautiful hands made me want to use her as a model. She also rescued the look book shoot by turning my older sister's bat mitzvah dress from 20+ years ago inside out to use as the perfect shade of green backdrop.
A knot of Lucite forms an abstract heart, impossible to unravel. You can turn the ring inwards or outwards to signal love to yourself or the world.
Your new lucky charms—these trefoil knots are a symbol of good fortune, and they look so interesting from many different angles.
A space-age collar for a forward thinker. Each necklace is handmade in our Toronto Studio. Invisible statement jewelry!
A knotted Lucite keychain means you’ll never forget your keys, not to mention they make an amazing gift.
Corey Moranis is a Canadian designer who handcrafts Lucite jewelry and accessories. She’s drawn to Lucite for its ethereal nature; it seems to float but has a solid presence, and its luminous effect changes with the light from day to night. Each Corey Moranis piece is one of a kind - a hand-bent, wearable work of art.
Aw yeah!
