Trend Alert: Full Skirts

You just don’t twirl in denim like you would a voluminous skirt. It’s the kind of youthful spontaneity that swathes of fabric welcome—roomy midis simply make spring dressing more fun and more comfortable.

The thing is, these flowy faves are the jeans of the warmer months. Styling a full skirt might feel daunting. There’s somehow more reverence for the traditionally feminine garment and questions regarding shoe pairings (and concerns of dowdiness certainly arise). But don’t think too hard about it—ample volumes have the same timeless cool as their streamlined denim counterparts. Full skirts feel casually chic with vintage t-shirts and sneakers, but are irresistibly elegant with kitten heels and a blouse. In fact, sometimes it’s fun to feel formal. That’s why I ultimately love a big skirt, because it’s a garment that lends the same magical feeling of getting dressed up when you’re a kid—it feels fabulous, yet purposefully like armor.
